Built in the 16th century by King Philip III, Plaza Mayor is one of Madrid’s most iconic locations. For its fourth centennial in February 2017, the City Council wanted to design a celebratory event that inspired, delighted, wowed and dazzled – and what better way than an immersive projection mapping?
Largest projection mapping in Spain Inviting all to come celebrate the square’s 400th birthday, 24 Barco projectors generated a 360-degree scene using all four sides of Madrid’s Plaza Mayor. 20 Barco HDQ-2K40 projectors and four Barco HDX-W20, integrated by Barco partner FLUGE BNC - AV, lit the plaza with an historical show centering around the interplay of light and shadow. The mapping illuminated the history and evolution of Plaza Mayor with a unique and mind-bending atmosphere that had visitors on the edges of their ‘seats’. As the largest projection mapping event in the history of Spain, the Plaza Mayor centennial was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even more, FLUGE BNC – AV was delighted with the equipment used: “Once again, the HDQ-2K40 projectors have proven to be the most reliable and stable equipment on the market, and they continue to accompany us to the most demanding jobs and in difficult conditions,” said Francisco Borja Gonzalez, Operations & Technical Director at FLUGE BNC - AV.
