A challenging set-up? The E2 and EC-200 systems make it possible
With over 5,000 delegates from 50+ countries, the 2016 Adobe Summit EMEA at ExCel London was, as every year, a memorable event. One of the secrets to its success? The vision of event agency Taylor Bennett, which took creative technical event production expert Hawthorn on board to deliver the full technical design and production. Led by Director Pete Harding, Hawthorn relied on Barco’s 4K E2 screen management system and its EC-200 hardware controller to bring the keynotes to life at the main conference plenary.
Superior image quality Supporting native 4K input and output, the E2 presentation system is the first and only screen management system on the market that can manage a 4K projector blend with re-fresh rates up to 60Hz. It therefore provides superior image quality. The EC-200 controller offers easy, fast show programming, thanks to its syntax-based programming. As it belongs to the same family as the E2 system, it was perfectly compatible with the two E2 systems used in London. To make sure nothing would go wrong, Barco delivered four units of its E2 system and two EC-200 controllers, in a fully redundant set-up. The Event Master System made the set-up a breeze.
E2 was the natural choice “We used the E2 for full content display management across all of the projection outputs, including a five-projector blend and multiple additional HD outputs. We had a total of 26 HD inputs and four at 4K so the E2 was the natural choice for the event, being able to natively handle these large inputs without the need for additional external scaling,” said David Barton, Group Head of Video at Hawthorn. “Due to the nature of the event, with its short build schedule and restricted rehearsal timetable, programming had to be quick and reliable with the ability for last-minute changes as and when required. The EC-200 control surface makes that all possible.” Hawthorn also utilized the four aux outputs to cater for the countdown clock and DSM feeds (comfort monitors) as well as the Multiview outputs for distribution backstage.
Important guests Seating 5,000 guests, the main auditorium at ExCel London played host to guest speakers such as Heston Blumenthal, Colin Farrell and Davina McCall, during the Adobe Summit. Barco’s screen management solutions were perfectly up to the job of providing the speakers with the most mesmerizing backdrop to their presentations.
